This is the last Tuesday Art Journal Prompt of the year as December 1st begins the daily art prompts for the Christmas Art Journal Advent Calendar. So, I decided to go big for this one. Your prompt is “Mandala”.

Warning: These can be addictive once you start drawing them. They are relaxing and you will find yourself adding “just one more layer” for hours. LOL

What is a mandala?

Here is the definition from Wikipedia

Mandala – Wikipedia

A mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, lit, circle) is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Indian religions, representing the universe. In common use, “mandala” has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.

Basically it is drawing the same thing over and over within each layer of your “circle”. I put circle in quotes because your shape doesn’t actually have to be a circle. Think rings in a tree. They aren’t necessarily perfect circles but they do stack in (or out depending on your perspective).
Here is a Mandala I drew.
So fix yourself a cup of your favorite hot beverage, get comfy, and draw to your heart’s content!!
Relaxing is on,
